Aishwarya Letterman Interview

  Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan or Aishwarya Bachchan (Birthname: Aishwarya Rai; Tulu: ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯಾ ರೈ; born November 1, 1973) is an internationally known Indian actress. Before starting her career as an actress, she worked as a model, and gained fame after winning the Miss World contest in 1994. Often touted as the most beautiful woman in the world, Aishwarya is considered by many including Julia Roberts and Roger Ebert to indeed be the most beautiful woman in the world.  She certainly gets my vote. Rai made her movie debut in Mani Ratnam's Tamil film, Iruvar (1997). She had her first commercial success in the Tamil movie Jeans (1998) She came to the attention of Bollywood in the Hindi movie, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), which was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She successfully performed again in Bhansali's Devdas (2002). Since then, she has acted in nearly forty movies in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, and English, including the international movies, Bride & Prejudice (2003), Mistress of Spices (2006) and The Last Legion (2007) in English. Rai was born in Mangalore, as the daughter of Krishnaraj Rai, a marine biologist, and Vrinda Rai, a writer. Her family belongs to the Bunt community of Mangalore. She has one elder brother, Aditya Rai, who is an engineer in the merchant navy and also co-produced one of Rai's movies, Dil Ka Rishta (2003).

After she was born, her parents moved to Bombay (now called Mumbai) where she attended the Arya Vidya Mandir high school in Santa Cruz. Rai then entered Jai Hind College at Churchgate for one year, and then moved to Ruparel College in Matunga to finish her "HSC" studies. She did well in school and planned to become an architect.

She can communicate in 5 languages :- Tulu, English, Tamil, Hindi and Marathi. While pursuing her studies in architecture, Rai began modeling on the side. In the 1994 Miss India contest, she won the second place (behind Sushmita Sen), and went on to win the Miss World title the same year, where she also won the Miss Photogenic award. She abandoned her studies after winning the pageant and spent one year reigning as Miss World in London. Rai then started working as a professional model and then moved on to her current profession as an actress.

Rai has previously dated model Rajeev Mulchandani and Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi. She is now married to Indian actor Abhishek Bachchan an extremely popular leading man and mega movie star in his own right and a frequent co-star with Aishwarya.  The wedding took place on April 20, 2007.

Rai made her acting debut in Mani Ratnam's Tamil film, Iruvar (1997) with Mohanlal, and was introduced to Bollywood in the film, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya opposite Bobby Deol, which also released that year; the film didn't do well at the box office. However, her third project, S. Shankar's Tamil film, Jeans (1998) was a critical and commercial success, earning her the Filmfare Best Actress Award South.

She went on to appear in many Bollywood films; a few successful films of her career include Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), which earned the actress her first Filmfare Best Actress Award and Taal (1999), which gave her another nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare; her performances in both the films were lauded. In 2000, she played a supporting role in the hit films Mohabbatein and Josh. Later that year, she starred in the Tamil film Kandukondain Kandukondain, which won her positive reviews.

In 2002, Rai appeared with superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit in Sanjay Leela Bansali's lavishly produced Devdas. The film attracted overseas attention as well, receiving a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival. It was during this time that she garnered the attention of the West as an Indian actress and went on to appear in a few Hollywood projects. Devdas went on to become the highest grossing film of the year both in India and overseas, earning the actress her second Filmfare Best Actress Award.

As her name gained popularity overseas, she was chosen by Time magazine in 2004 as one of the World's "100 Most Influential People", and appeared on the cover of Time magazine, Asia Edition (TIMEasia) in 2003. She was the subject of a 60 Minutes profile on January 2. A month later she appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman. She also featured on Oprah's "Women Across the Globe" segment. In 2003, she acted in the critically acclaimed and commercial success Bengali film, Chokher Bali, an adaptation of one of Rabindranath Tagore's novels by the same name.

Rai has been a regular at the Cannes Film Festival since 2002, and was a member of the Jury at Cannes in the year 2003. In October 2004, a wax figure of Rai became on display in London's Madame Tussaud's wax museum.[11] The same month, her first foreign film, Bride and Prejudice released. The film was an Indian version of Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice. Her next overseas venture was The Mistress of Spices. She then appeared at the closing ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, as part of a performance showcasing Indian art, on behalf of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, to be held in New Delhi. In between her overseas acting stints, she appeared in the Indian film Bunty Aur Babli in a hugely popular seven minute dance sequence for the song "Kajra Re".

In 2005, Rai signed a three-year contract with L'Oréal, as a spokesmodel for the cosmetics company.

At the end of the year 2006, she had two releases: Umrao Jaan and Dhoom 2. The former did poorly in India but her role in the latter, which was a sequel to the 2004 hit movie Dhoom brought her great attention. While it was a hit commercially,[12] it also sparked a controversy for a scene containing a kiss between her and Hrithik Roshan, which made audiences uncomfortable; a court case is currently pending in India.[13]

2007 saw the release of Mani Ratnam's Guru which premiered in Toronto. The film, based on the life of Indian businessman Dhirubhai Ambani, was critically acclaimed and did well at the box office.[14] Her most recent film, Provoked, based on the book "Circle of Light" where she portrays a real life character, was released on April 6, 2007 in India and the UK. At the end of April 2007, her first American film, The Last Legion released in Russia and the Netherlands and later opened in North American theaters in August 2007 disappointingly.

I personally have seen more than 20 of her movies and she a remarkable actress and a fabulous dancer, light years ahead of some great dancers such as Janet Jackson.

The are over 18,000 websites that pay homage to this incredible female who was voted one of the world's most 100 influential people by Time Magazine.

Charitable, religious and highly intelligent, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a woman that every man would want in their dreams.  Ash plays many types of characters in her movies from many different historical periods.  She simply has it all and deserves all of her accolades.

Ash is scheduled to be the next Bond Girl playing opposite Daniel Craig.  She is also slated to be in The Pink Panther 2, with Steve Martin and has a movie with Brandon Fraiser on her agenda.  So look out Hollywood because Aishwarya is on her way and is certain to become a very well known star to American audiences.

Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra (Hindi: प्रियांका चोपड़ा; born July 18, 1982) is an Indian film actress and former Miss World who works in Bollywood films.

Her most current background information is available right here.

After winning the title of Miss India World and later becoming Miss World 2000, Chopra made her acting debut with Anil Sharma's The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003). She had her first commercial success with her second release, Andaaz from the same year and won a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for her performance in the film. Becoming the second woman to win the Filmfare Best Villain Award for her critically acclaimed performance in Abbas-Mustan's Aitraaz (2004), Chopra later went on to deliver commercial success with films like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Krrish (2006), her biggest commercial success so far, and Don - The Chase Begins Again (2006), establishing herself as a popular actress.

Chopra studied at St. Maria Goretti in Bareilly, as a young girl and later went to the United States, where she was a student at Newton North High School in Newton, Massachusetts and North Delta Senior Secondary School in North Delta before returning to India to complete high school at Army School (Bareilly). She began college at Jai Hind College in Mumbai but left after winning the Miss World pageant.

Chopra was crowned Miss India World and later Miss World in 2000. In the same year, Lara Dutta and Diya Mirza, both from India, won the Miss Universe and Miss Asia Pacific crowns, in a rare triple.

When she won the Miss World crown, she became the fifth Indian woman to win the title, and the fourth Indian woman to win in a span of seven years.

After winning the Miss World title, Chopra became an actress. She first acted in a Tamil film Thamizhan (2002), in which she also sung a song, before moving on to Bollywood. In 2003, her first Bollywood film, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy released and won her good reviews. Despite being given a below average status, the film went on to become one of the highest grossing films of that year. Her next film, Andaaz opposite Akshay Kumar was a success, earning her a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award and a nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.

Her next few films failed to do well at the box office. In 2004, her film, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi released and became the third highest grossing film of that year. Her first negative role in her next release, Aitraaz, a Hindi remake of the Demi Moore-starrer Disclosure won her critical acclaim and earned a Filmfare Best Villain Award. Her role also got her a second nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. In the same year, she participated in a world tour aptly titled Temptations 2004 with Bollywood's leading stars, Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji and Arjun Rampal.

In 2005, she had many releases, though most did not do well at the box office. In 2006, Chopra starred in two of the most successful films of the year - Krrish and Don - The Chase Begins Again.

Nikhil Advani's multi-starrer, Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love was her first release in 2007. The move failed to do well at the box office. Her most recent release, Big Brother also failed to do well.

Born in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand to Ashok Chopra and Madhu Akhauri, both of whom are doctors, Chopra spent parts of her childhood in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Newton, Massachusetts and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her mother comes from a Kayastha Bihari family settled in Jamshedpur, while her father comes from a family of Punjabi origin, settled in Bareilly. She also has a brother, Siddharth, who is eight years younger than her. Since her father was in the Army, her family frequently moved.

Priyanka Chopra is the brightest rising female star in Bollywood.  Ms. Chopra was Miss World 2000 and is one of the most glamorous movie stars in the world. Priyanka is an incredible dancer and is also a very capable singer and a superb actress.

Known often for action roles, Priyanka is diversifying these days and has recently signed a multi picture contract with one of Bollywood's leading studios. In fact, Priyanka became the first Bollywood actress to sign a landmark mega three-film deal with UTV Motion Pictures, one of the largest production houses in India.

She is spokesperson for Tag Heuer watches and was the Grand Marshall of the India Parade in New York City on August 19, 2007 where 120,000 fans turned out for the event.  A similar parade was held in Chicago on August 18, 2007.

Highly intelligent, very charitable and possessed with surreal sex appeal, Priyanka is being approached on a global scale to perform as an actress, model, dancer and to endorse products.  She has been dancing since she was a child and has an amazing screen presence.

As you can she, photographs with a style, beauty and appeal, rarely ever seen.  Her gentle voice and human qualities add greatly to remarkable appeal.

Don - Krrish - Bluffmaster - Barsaat - Waqt - Aitraaz  Kaminey
Asambhav - Kismat -

She was the winner of the Ford's Godrej Cinthol Supermodel contest for 1996 and is currently one of the mainstream Bollywood actresses. She is often cited by popular magazines and newspapers as one of Asia's sexiest women.

Born on January 7, 1979 in New Delhi, India, Basu hails from a Bengali family. She is the second of three daughters to her parents, the elder being Bidisha, and the younger—Vijayeta. Although she was born in Delhi, her family later moved to Kolkata.

According to her, she had come into modeling and acting quite by accident, because initially she had planned to study medicine. Basu studied science till the 12th standard, and later took up commerce. Although, as pointed above, she intended to become a doctor, her aversion for dissections made her opt for chartered accountancy. However, in 1996, she met well-known model Mehr Jessia in Kolkata; the latter suggested that Basu take part in the Supermodel of the World contest. She eventually participated, and won the contest.

After winning the Ford Godrej Cinthol contest to be India's candidate for Supermodel of the World contest, Basu was flown to New York by the Ford Company, where she had a successful modeling career.

Mallika Slide Show

Mallika Sherawat

Mallika Sherawat (Hindi: मल्लिका शेरावत, born October 24, 1981 as Reema Lamba in Karnal, Haryana, India) is a popular Indian actress and model. Known for her public openness, she is frequently featured in the Indian media as a sex symbol. She worked as an air hostess prior to entering films and it was around this time that she married a pilot, Karan Singh Gill. They are now divorced.

Sherawat's birth name is Reema Lamba; she says that adopted the screen name of "Mallika", meaning "empress" to avoid confusion with other actresses named Reema. "Sherawat" is her mother's maiden name. She has stated that she uses her mother's maiden name because of all the support her mother has provided for her. There is also a controversy regarding her age. A news channel in India had alleged that she was already a graduate before starting to work as an airhostess and hence she can't be as young as she claims. She has also a degree in Indian philosophy from Miranda House, Delhi University.

Mallika's onscreen debut was in Lak Tunoo, a music video by Surjit Bindrakhia. She attracted wide notice with her appearance in the 2003 movie Khwahish. By Indian standards the movie was quite racy, however it was known for its naturalistic and realistic topic. In 2004, she starred in Murder, a film inspired by Hollywood's Unfaithful that again challenged Indian film standards. She received a nomination for Best Actress at the Zee Cine Awards ceremony for her performance in Murder. The film went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year. Since then, Sherawat has been known for her courage to express her opinions in public, and went on to make headlines through her outfits and blunt statements.

She also made news when she won a small role in a Jackie Chan movie, The Myth, where she again appeared in revealing costumes. She made a widely publicized appearance at the Cannes Film Festival to promote The Myth. Since her debut, Mallika was often accused of simply being a sexy woman without talent. However, her performance in the 2006 film Pyaar Ke Side Effects co-starring Rahul Bose won her praise from around the industry, and the film also garnered decent collections at the box office becoming a moderate success. The movie stamped Mallika as an actress who started off as an item girl and joined the main stream later on.

She is now beginning to work in the Kollywood (Tamil) film industry as well. She plays the second fiddle in Dasavatharam starring Kamal Haasan, Asin and Jayapradha. Her first 2007 release was Himesh Reshammiya's Aap Ka Suroor - The Real Love Story, where she played a "vampish role". Mallika herself has protested, saying that it is a negative role but not a vamp role. With Aap Ka Suroor she has become the most expensive "Item Girl", as she charged Rs. 1.5 crore for her Item number in the movie. Aap Ka Suroor did well at the box office becoming one of the year's biggest hits. Her last release of 2007 was Welcome which also did well at the box office receiving blockbuster status.

Sherawat has been voted as one of Asia's 100 most beautiful people by the Hong Kong based fashion and beauty magazine, Cover.

Sushmita Slide Show

Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen (Shushmita Shen, Hindi, सुष्मिता सेन, Suśmitā Sen) was born on November 19, 1975 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. She is a well-known Bollywood actress and was Miss Universe in 1994.

Sushmita was born in a Bengali family to Shubeer Sen, a former Indian Air Force Wing Commander and Subhra Sen, worked as a fashion artist and jewelery designer. She has a brother, Rajeev Sen and a sister, Neelam Sen. She was born in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh and grew up in New Delhi. She attended school at Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute studying English, and had career plans in journalism. In 2000, she adopted a girl, Renee, as a single mother.

In 1994, at the age of eighteen, Sushmita won the title of Miss India narrowly beating out Aishwarya Rai, who was the favorite to win the contest. Twenty-two girls took their application out from the contest once they learned that model Aishwarya Rai was participating for Miss India. Sushmita Sen was one of them but her mother gave her the courage to face the challenge. Interestingly, Aishwarya Rai won every title in the preliminary round. Ironically, both Sen and Rai were actually tied for the title. It was with a tie-breaking question that got Sen the chance to represent India at the Miss Universe Pageant, held in Manila, Philippines.

At Miss Universe, Sushmita ranked third overall in the preliminaries, right behind preliminary winner Miss Colombia Carolina Gomez, and Miss Greece Rea Totounzi, who ranked second but won the preliminary swimsuit and evening gown competitions. Sushmita went on to place second, fifth and third respectively in the swimsuit, interview and evening gown competitions, placing her in third place behind Miss Colombia and Miss Venezuela Minorka Mercado. All three women went on to be the final three contestants. In the end, the judges placed their votes on Sushmita, making her the first woman from India to become Miss Universe.  Sushmita's supposed rival at the Miss India pageant, Aishwarya Rai, went on to win the 1994 Miss World contest.

Sushmita became an actress. Her first movie, Dastak in 1996, where she played the victim of a stalker, didn't do well at the box office. Her subsequent movie Ratchagan in Tamil, was a huge hit. However, it was two years later that her appearance as Rupali in David Dhawan's movie Biwi No.1 won her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in 1999. The same year, she was also nominated for her role in Sirf Tum in the same category, making her an obvious choice for winner.

So far, her biggest hit has been the 2004 movie Main Hoon Na, in which she starred as Shahrukh Khan's love interest. Later on, she played a lawyer in Main Aisa Hi Hoon opposite Ajay Devgan. In 2005, she also starred in a remake of Cactus Flower, called Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya: Sen played the lead opposite Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. Her most recent movies include Karma, Confessions and Holi (2006) opposite Naomi Campbell, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (2007) and the recently announced Dulha Mil Gaya (2007) opposite Shahrukh Khan.
